February of 2011 saw the official hand over of our new Mobile Incident Control Centre.
The vehicle which had already attended several incidents prior to the official handover, is a specially converted 4X4 Mercedes Sprinter, fitted with 'state of the art' communication, computing and mapping systems which allow planning and management of complex search and rescue operations from a forward position close to the incident site.
In addition to its role as an incident command centre, the vehicle is also kited out as an ambulance allowing it to be used for casualty evacuation, and has storage areas for transportation of rescue equipment and seating for personnel.
It is a truly a multi-purpose vehicle, and it is a fantastic asset to the Team.
The Team was able to purchase the vehicle thanks to a £50,000 award from the
Peoples Millions and the Big Lottery Fund.
The team secured the award in a public vote back in November 2009 and would like to thank all of the people who voted for us. Letter from our Team Leader.
James Turner, BIG Lotteries, Head of Region for the North East handed over the keys in an ceremony held at Go Outdoors, Newcastle store on 23rd Feb 2011.
