The team training officer provides a regular training programme covering search techniques, casualty care, radio communications, crag and steep ground work and the many other skills required of a Team member. Casualty care training with the team includes working towards an MRC Cas Care Certificate, details of this qualification can be found on the MRC web site.

Climber

Normally we have two training events per month. One full day session and one evening session. However there are also a few full weekends in the annual training cycle.

Our training year runs from September to September the start of the cycle coinciding with our annual trainee intake.

All team personnel are expected to attend training events regularly in order to maintain and improve competence in the skills and techniques needed to provide an appropriate standard of service to the public.

Prolonged absence from training results in removal from the call-out list and can result in expultion from the team. Trainees must attend a minimum of 75% of the training events before they can make full team member.

All personnel are expected to ensure their own physical fitness allows them to remain effective on the hill, for up to 24 hours in any weather.

Additional specialist training is also sometimes offered to team members through associated organisations. For example Working with Seach Dogs, Scene of crimes, Cave Rescue, Aircraft Disasters, Tracking ...
